To Our Genealogical Research Guests
Welcome to the Tazewell County Courthouse. We are glad to have you. We ask that you observe the following guidelines for our mutual benefit.
We ask that you only take writing materials, your purse or wallet and keys into the vault area. We will be glad to store your briefcases and the like, or you may wish to return them to your car.
We have the Following Records
|Births and Deaths||1853-1870 one volume with both birth and death records and their separate index in the front of the book. Birth and Death records since 1870 are recorded with the Bureau of Vital Records, State Department of Health, Richmond, Va 23208.|
|Wills||Complete since 1800. There are two indexes, one from 1800-1908, the other commencing with January 1, 1909. The first volume contains both devisors and devisees, the later volume is indexed by devisors only.|
|Marriages||Complete since 1800. There are some ten marriage record volumes, with seperate indexes; we also have marriages indexed on 3 x 5 cards in the research area which you may access. We ask that you DO NOT REMOVE THE CARDS FROM THE FILING CABINET, to keep them in proper order.|
|Deeds||Complete since 1800. There are also indices concerning various time spans. The first index for 1800-1876 includes both the grantors and grantees. After 1876 they are separated.|
|Court Orders||These are located in the Civil Section of our office.|
** Most of our records from 1985 forward have been indexed and scanned in an automatic records management system.
If you locate any records and need a copy, one of the office personnel will make it for you, if more than 5 copies are needed, please make a list of all copies needed along with your name and mailing address, and our office personnel will mail those to you as soon as possible.
Copies of marriage, birth and death records are all $2.50 each. All other copies are 50 cents per page.
Finally, we would appreciate your researching primary in the area of the vault near the marriage, birth and death records. This will expedite your work, and not interfere with others who may be doing deed title work.
We Appreciate your Cooperation.
