Terms of Court and General Information

  • Terms begin, 1st Monday, each month unless holiday, then following day.
  • Motion Day, Friday, 9:30 a.m., and Mon. - Thurs., 9:30 - 4:30, by Duty Judge on motions set with agreement of all parties on a regularly scheduled basis, or by appointment for emergency or ex parte matters.
  • Grand Juries, 1st & 3rd Monday of each month unless holiday, then next day.
  • Civil cases are set in accordance with delay reduction programs as established by the Court.
  • Civil appeals from Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court pre-set by court.
  • Criminal cases set by Commonwealth's Attorney with defense counsel in accordance with procedure as established by the court.
  • Misdemeanor and traffic infraction appeals set by district court for Thursdays.
  • Court convenes 9:30 a.m.
  • Uncontested divorces will be heard by the duty judge or by a Commissioner in Chancery. Contested cases will be heard on the court's docket Mon. - Thurs., 9:30 a.m.
  • Local rules adopted pursuant to Section 8.01-4.
